Bring your best to the DMV road test in a familiar, well-maintained vehicle from our fleet. Whether you don’t have access to a car, or simply feel more comfortable testing in the same car you trained in, we’re here to help you approach your exam with calm and confidence.

We offer a realistic mock test to familiarize you with the exam format and expectations. Your instructor will review your performance and provide focused feedback.

1. For legal and safety reasons, practice is not conducted on actual DMV test routes.
2. For the safety of all parties, our instructors reserve the right to decline a vehicle rental for the official DMV test if a student’s driving skills are deemed insufficient. We are committed to your preparation, but cannot guarantee DMV test outcomes.

Mission

To promote road safety in our communities by improving driving standards and in particular by training drivers and driving instructors to the highest possible standard.

Fleet

We are using Subaru Solterra. This EV model has an ability to switch between a normal and EV driving modes to fit your needs. Our fleets are fully insured with coverage and equipped with dual controls and instructor mirrors.

Instructor

All our instructors are certified by the State of California. Each instructor receives specialized training annually through the State of California certified instructor training program.  They are experienced,
knowledgeable, patient and will teach you the skill to drive in today’s traffic.

History

Camellok Driving School started out in San Francisco area in 1995 as
A & J Driving School. The school had only a handful of instructors and
a burning passion that help people to drive safely. In 2001, the school
moved to Sacramento area with continued success.

    Louie is Amazing. Funny and personable, the kids love him. I hired him to train my twin girls and both of them learned a great deal. He spends the time on what they need and prepares them to be safe drivers. My girls both past their drive test the first time. Louie is helpful giving the parents and students key areas where improvement is needed. The tips and suggestions he offered were spot on.     I hired this driving school for my granddaughter’s driving license preparation. Since she is a shy girl, I requested a female instructor, unfortunately they don’t have them. Instead, the owner suggested to bring a relative in the ride with her to feel more comfortable. She brought her mother in the two hours ride. My granddaughter was very pleased with her male instructor. She expressed her appreciation for all the important, driving tips her instructor provided for her driver’s exam .     Louie is outstanding!! I passed my test with only 2 errors that were nit picky on the test. My test was 45 minutes long. He taught me everything I needed to know to pass the test. He is straightforward and knows how to teach students. He is also very funny and personable. He is an excellent instructor and always shows up on time. He is very dedicated. He uses flash cards that are very good at teaching. He is very professional. I was very concerned about passing the test and he eased my burden. He is excellent and I highly recommend him.

  • Real 5 Stars

    Straight-forward driving school with an experienced instructor. Before I begin my review, I’d like to point out that almost all driving schools EXCEPT THIS ONE have Yelp and Google pages that are swarmed with fake 5-star reviews. Seriously. Go to any Yelp page and scroll down to the section that says “Reviews that are not recommended” and notice how many reviews from brand new accounts there are. I chose Camellok because it was one of the only schools that doesn’t inflate their rating with fake/bribed reviews. Thank you for your honest business practices!

Steps For under 18

Process

1. Driver Education

  1. CA state requires 30 hours of driver education. You may choose between online course or classroom training.
  2. Online course may last from 2 to 7 days depending how fast you read. Classroom training often requires 4 to 5 days.
  3. Upon completion, you’ll get form DL400C (Pink slip).

2. Written test

  1. The written test consists of 46 questions. You can not miss 8 or more questions.
  2. You have 3 chances to pass the test. If you fail three times, you must wait for 7 days before taking it again. You can practice the sample test at DMV website.
  3. Do not forget to study the DMV handbook.

3. Driver Training

  1. Take at least 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training with a professional instructor.
  2. Your permit is not valid until you start your driver training with a driving instructor or reach the age of 17 1/2.
  3. Upon completion of six hours driver training, you will receive a Certificate of Driver Training DL400D (yellow slip).

4. DMV Driving Test

  1. To take a driving test at DMV, you must be at least 16 years old.
  2. Proof of completion of driver education and driver training.
  3. Bring valid car insurance and car registration.
  4. If you failed the first time, you must wait for 2 weeks before taking your next driving test and pay a fee of $9.
  5. Schedule driving test appointment online or call (800) 777-0133.
